1st Day of Selection Camp- May 29, 2008

I arrived in Philadelphia Yesterday.  I couldn't sleep last night because I was so nervous. I woke up at 5am, 7am, and again at 7:30. Once we got to the St. Joe Boathouse after a 45 minutes commute we had a meeting. We met team managers and set off for the first workout. When I wasn't in the boat I was on shore erging. I did a 6K piece with about 4x 20 high strokes at race pace. On shore I practiced hitting the high rates. My split was low but I was still extremely nervous.

The first piece went by quickly. I was adjusting to the line. The last 250m was awesome. The coach mentioned that I might have a crush on someone in the launch because I kept staring out at my blade. I was taught to watch my blade at Purdue and I think it is a great way to self correct so it is a hard habit to break.

Between practices we ate Quiznos Subs and watched "The Boy in Blue" a rowing movie about the first sliding seat boats. At this point my back was starting to tighten up and ache a bit. I also have a queasy stomach. Maybe it is just a caffeine with drawl. I can't tell if I am doing well or not because the atmosphere is very professional.

I have to put all of the results in God's hand. I know that I can give 150% on every piece but it is not my final decision it is the coaches. I cannot control Tracy and the other guys but I can control myself. They are all extremely good rowers and athletes. They are also all very nice people. May the best crew win!
